The Delegation led by the Secretary General of the Punjab State Local Governments and Social Development Presidency was hosted in Turkey.
Within the scope of the "Pakistan Punjab Urban Development Projects, PRF-2 Operation, Design and Business Model (ODBM)" project carried out in partnership with SUİŞ PROJE-ALTER, The Delegation led by the Secretary General of the Punjab State Local Governments and Social Development Presidency was hosted in Turkey.
Meeting was held at our Alter Head Office during The Delegations’ Ankara visit.
General Directorate of DSI, General Directorate of Water Management, General Directorate of KOSKI and General Directorate of ISKI were visited and technical inspection tours were made at the Treatment Facilities.
Technical inspection tour was held to ITC Solid Waste Facility.
At the end of the meetings and field trips, there was an exchange of ideas.
-Within the scope of Ankara - Turkey visit, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works of Turkey (DSİ) was visited on 14.11.2022. The visit started at 10.00 and the Pakistan Delegation was welcomed by the General Director, Prof. Dr. Lütfi Akça, Vice General Director, Dr. Bülent Selek, Head of Planning, Nazmi Kağnıcıoğlu, Head of Geotechnical Division, Dr. Ayhan Koçbay, Head of Foreign Relation Office, Tuncer Dinçergök. After warm welcome and presentation of plates, DSİ officials made a presentation about the completed and on-going projects of DSİ including water supply, dams, irrigation, waste water treatment etc. The questions of Pakistan delegation were answered by DSİ officials. The memory photo was taken with DSİ officials, Pakistan Delegation, ALTER and SUİS executives, Ms. Dide Özdikmen and Mr. Kerim Orhon. At the end of the visit, lunch was held in the honor of Pakistan Delegation.
After completion of the DSİ visit, the Pakistan Delegation with ALTER executive Ms. Dide Özdikmen and SUİS executive Kerim Orhon continue their visits with General Directorate of Water Management of Turkey (SYGM). The Pakistan Delegation was welcomed by the SYGM officials; General Director Mrs. Afire Sever and Head of Water Quality Department Zakir Turan. Meeting was held at the SYGM and questions of Pakistan delegation was answered by the General Director of SYGM, Mrs. Afire Sever. SYGM official, İrem Karahan, presented the works carried out by SYGM. The hot topic was the leakage and management of leakage in transmission lines and distribution networks. the meeting ended with mutual satisfaction.
-KOSKI General Manager Ahmet Demir, KOSKI Plan Project Department Head H.Kursat Civelekoglu, company partner Dide Ozdikmen on behalf of ALTER Company, ALTER Izmir Office Manager Dr.Ilker Atis, ALTER Company Economist Huseyin Doganay and SUİS Company on behalf of I.Utku Acıkalın attended the meeting at Konya Water and Sewerage Administration KOSKI. KOSKI General Manager gave information about the institutional structure of KOSKI and Konya's drinking water resources and wastewater system. It explained its long-term goals and existing water supply systems.
According to the information given by the General Manager of KOSKI, drinking water is supplied to Konya from 2 dams, some natural resources and groundwater. Bagbasi dam flow, which is one of the 2 surface water sources, is in the Goksu basin towards the Mediterranean. With this dam, the water flowing into the Mediterranean was transferred to the closed basin of Konya through a 17 km long drinking water tunnel called the Blue Tunnel. The purpose of the dam is to supply both drinking water and irrigation water. The dam meets 55% of Konya's drinking water needs. The water coming from the dam is given to Konya after being treated at the Blue Tunnel drinking water treatment plant. The capacity of the treatment plant is 100 million m3/year.
Altınapa dam, which is the other surface water source of Konya, meets 15% of the drinking water need. The water coming from this dam is treated in a treatment plant with a capacity of 104.000 m3/day. The remaining 30% of Konya's drinking water is supplied from natural resources and groundwater.
Konya Wastewater Treatment Plant has a capacity of 200.000 m3/day and works to double the capacity are ongoing. The facility, whose capacity has been increased, will carry out advanced biological treatment. The treated wastewater from the Wastewater Treatment Plant is used for irrigation of green areas in the city center of Konya. As of 2021, 380.000 m3/year of treated wastewater was used for irrigation.
At the end of the meeting, a relief plaque showing one of the gates of the city of Lahore was presented to the Director General of KOSKİ by the head of the Pakistani delegation.
Then, technical trip were made by going to the Akyokuş drinking water treatment plant, where the drinking water coming from Altınapa dam to Konya is purified. Facility units were visited in detail. Backwashing demonstration was done in the sand filter unit by the facility manager.
After the technical inspection tour at the drinking water treatment plant, lunch was eaten with the participation of KOSKİ Plan Project Department Head H. Kürşat Civelekoğlu. After lunch, we set off for the program in Istanbul.
- The first meeting at Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration ISKI was attended by ISKI General Manager Dr. Safak Basa, Head of Strategy Development Department Prof.Dr. Tugba Olmez Hanci and Foreign Relations Branch Manager Necla Akca. ISKI General Manager gave information about ISKI's institutional structure and Istanbul's drinking water resources and wastewater system. It explained its long-term goals and existing water supply systems.
ISKI has 9700 personnel. There are 3500 people working on behalf of ISKI in contractor companies. The total number of personnel is 13,200 people.
According to the information given by the General Manager of ISKI, 3 million m3 of drinking water is supplied to Istanbul, whose population has reached 19 million people together with the migrations from Syria and other foreign countries. All of the drinking water is provided from surface water sources by 9 dams and 23 drinking water treatment plants. There are 90 biological and advanced biological wastewater treatment plants in Istanbul.
At the end of the meeting, the head of the Pakistan delegation was given a model of the Mağlova aqueduct, one of the historical water supply systems of Istanbul and built by the famous Turkish architect of the Ottoman period, Mimar Sinan, and a memoir book by the General Manager of İSKİ. A relief plaque depicting one of the gates of Lahore city was presented to the General Director of ISKI by the head of the Pakistani delegation.
It was said that the work on a drinking water master plan for Istanbul is continuing by İSKİ. At the meeting, a short briefing was given by Dr. İlker Atis, who attended the meeting as ALTER representative, about the potable water master plan studies and some projects carried out by ALTER Company in the past covering Istanbul and drinking water basins.
After the end of the meeting with the General Manager of ISKI, ISKI Foreign Relations Branch Manager Necla Akca in another hall made a power-point presentation titled ISKI and its projects.
Then, a technical inspection visit was made to the Ikitelli drinking water treatment plant, which purifies the water coming from the Terkos and Sazlıdere dams on the European side of Istanbul. Water Treatment Plant Manager Omer Turaslı made a power-point presentation introducing Ikitelli drinking water treatment plant. At the end of the meeting, Ikitelli Water Treatment Plant Manager Omer Turaslı was presented with a relief plaque showing one of the gates of Lahore by the Pakistani delegation. Later, Ikitelli drinking water treatment plant was visited and technical information was obtained. Lunch was eaten in the staff cafeteria at the Ikitelli drinking water treatment plant. Thus, the technical inspection tour in Istanbul ISKI was completed.
