Because of its geographically seismic prone location, İstanbul is one of the cities in Turkey which is most vulnerable to earthquakes. Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project (ISMEP) was initiated by the Republic of Turkey and International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).

The project is implemented by the İstanbul Provincial Administration (ISPA) through Istanbul Project Coordination Unit (IPCU). In 2010 European Investment Bank (EIB) started contributed to the Project funding. Consultancy Services for Feasibility Study and Technical Assistance for Retrofitting of Priority Public Buildings in İstanbul aims at retrofitting: (All components were carried out due to FIDIC Conditions of Contract)

  • 79 schools,
  • 32 health facilities,
  • 8 polyclinic,
  • 1 social facility building
  • 1 administrative building (in total 121 units having 152 separate buildings with a total building area of 310.511 m2).

Services provided by ALTER;

  1. Assessment for retrofitting
  • Review of available documents,
  • Generation of field data such as buildings’ as built drawings (architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical), in situ tests and laboratory tests to define concrete strength, drilling boreholes and excavation pits for geotechnical investigations
