On behalf of ALTER Uluslararası Mühendislik ve Müşavirlik Hizmetleri A.Ş., our engineers Kader Benli and Çağla Irmak Ünal participated in the Flood Management Workshop in Kızılcahamam by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works on 16-17-18 September 2022. All aspects of floods were reviewed in 5 sessions: "Flood Legislation and Policy, Flood Management, Urbanization and Land Use, Flood Disaster Management and the Impact of Climate Change on Floods". After the panel named “Flood Management” which is moderated by Prof. Dr. İzzet Öztürk and the participation of Prof. Dr. Lütfi Akca (SHW General Manager), Prof. Dr. Mikdat Kadıoğlu (İTU Faculty Member), Afire Sever (WM General Manager) and Hamza Taşdelen (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency Vice President); Directorate General for State Hydraulic Works, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency and Directorate General for Water Management made their presentations about flood management.
In the Workshop group titled “The Impact of Climate Change on Floods” moderated by Associate Professor İsmail Dabanlı; Developing a local and national "Global Climate Model", In local governments where the stormwater drainage system is not separate, the drainage system should be separated, permeable infrastructure systems should be developed, Stormwater harvesting should be expanded, Since the increase in forest fires and the increase in dry cover will increase the amount of sediment to be transported during the flood, the upper basin precautions should be increased, Early warning systems should be expanded, It is expected that the damages to be caused by urban floods will increase as a result of irregular urbanization with the increase in migration movements due to the consequences of climate change. In this context, preventive measures should be taken, the issue should be evaluated within the scope of climate security, and inter-institutional multidisciplinary working environments should be created for climate change and flood studies, and the Workshop was completed successfully. In the workshop group titled "Flood Disaster Management" convened under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Elçin Kentel, the titles of Turkey Disaster Response Plan, Turkey Disaster Risk Reduction Plan, Turkey Post-Disaster Recovery Plan, Provincial Risk Reduction Plan, flood crisis management and socio-economic effects of floods were discussed. Evaluations were made on current and future situations regarding flood management.
